Yesterday we were lucky enough to attend the release event for the 2013 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc. Cloudy Bay describes it as follows:

“A vintage rarely comes along as relaxed and settled as 2013 and it gave Cloudy Bay the opportunity to make decisions in the vineyard with minimal consideration for weather impact.  The season was capitalised on and the resulting wine displays a set of aromas and flavours that the Cloudy Bay team particularly enjoy”

This also coincided with the launch of the Cloudy Bay ‘Jacks Raw Bar’ , this is open every Sunday ovCloudy Bay Jacks Raw Barer the summer months. The menu contains a variety of  local shellfish, including scallops, clams, Tua Tua and Tio Point Oysters.

  • Congratulations to St Clair Wines at Bragato
Saint Clair Family Estate Champion Dessert Wine
    31 August 2014

Saint Clair Family Estate is world renowned for exceptional wines and consistent award success particularly with the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir varietals. On this occasion it is their Noble Riesling that wins a top award.

Trophy winners for the Bragato Wine Challenge were announced on Thursday night at the Marlborough Convention Centre. The Saint Clair Godfrey’s Creek Reserve Noble Riesling 2013 was awarded the esteemed Champion Dessert Wine. Saint Clair grape growers John and Lynne Walsh provided the exceptional fruit for this wine. John said “I spend all my time trying to prevent botrytis in my vineyard, but this year the winemakers suggested we leave a few rows to allow the rot to occur. Credit must go to the Saint Clair winemakers, Hamish Clark and his team who worked their magic making this exceptional trophy winning wine.”

The judging panel led by Ben Glover described the wine as “just a hint of that paraffin, bees wax like aroma, you then enter into the heavenly scent of apricot and honey played out on the palate and also providing great enjoyment – fantastic wine.”

A Bragato gold medal was also awarded for the Saint Clair Pioneer Block 5 Bull Block Pinot Noir 2012 from the vineyard of Robert and Heather Goulter.

The Bragato wine awards recognise viticulture excellence and Saint Clair Family Estate prides itself in achieving distinction in the vineyard. This quality is reflected in the assortment of medals and trophies awarded from not only this unique wine show but also many others around the globe.
